The CARE-MEDIFLORA team meet in Cyprus

The CARE-MEDIFLORA team met in Cyprus, 7-9 March 2017, for the 2nd project meeting and field trips. The trips took place on 7 and 9 March with destinations in the regions of South-Western and South Eastern Cyprus, respectively. The day in between was devoted to discussions on the progress of CARE-MEDIFLORA.

Population reinforcement of the threatened plant Datisca cannabina L. in Nea Roumata (Crete)

Datisca cannabina is characterized as vulnerable in the Red Data Book of Greece (Phitos et al., 2009), since it is found in only few localities. In Crete it is found in two localities; in the abandoned village of Samaria (halfway through Samaria George) and in the center of Chania Prefecture, close to Nea Roumata village.

Protection measures for the Rhamnus persicifolia patriarch in Sardinia

The in situ conservation action was performed by the Sardinian CARE-MEDIFLORA team (HBK) for the dioecious tree Rhamnus persicifolia Moris; this measure has been planned for the biggest individual of this species in Sardinia located in Rio Is Eras (Talana, Central-Eastern Sardinia).

Reinforcement operation for Astragalus alopecurus in Corsica

The CARE-MEDIFLORA team in Corsica (National Botanical Conservatory of Corsica - CBNC) started their first CARE-MEDIFLORA in situ conservation action, which consisted in a reinforcement operation of Astragalus alopecurus Pall.

A new in situ conservation action carried out by the Sardinian CARE-MEDIFLORA team (Hortus Botanicus Karalitanus, HBK partner) for the perennial fern Ophioglossum vulgatum L.

This interesting fern grows in Sardinia only in two small populations (less than 50 reproductive plants by population) subjected to several threats and, consequently, their conservation is a priority at regional level.
