Office of the Environment of Corsica - National Botanical Academy of Corsica

Office of the Environment of Corsica (OEC) - National Botanical Academy of Corsica (CBNC) is responsible for the administrative management of the project and for all actions in Corsica.

The Office of the Environment of Corsica (OEC), created in May 1993, is an Industrial and Commercial Public Institution (EPIC) on which the Region with a measure of autonomy of Corsica (CTC) exercises its power of supervision.

The OEC’s mission is to finance, follow and develop programmes of protection and management of the flora and the wildlife of Corsica. It arranges several departments, among which: the Monitoring Centre Academy of Insects, the Monitoring Centre of the Environment or still the National Botanical Academy of Corsica (CBNC).

Approved by the Ministry of Ecology, of the Sustainable development, and the Energy (MEDDE), the National Botanical Academy of Corsica (CBNC) is a department of the OEC. These actions are diverse and contain in particular:

- The inventory of the flora and habitats of Corsica and its satellite islands,

- The mapping of habitats,

- The management of a database of about 300 000 data (flora and habitats),

- Missions of expertises for accounts of the public authorities and the services of the state.

In it is added an important shutter concerning the preservation of the flora and housing environments. The CBNC has a team of 10 people compound of botanists and of phytosociologues. The actions of preservation are especially directed to the preservation in situ (eg. realization of National Plans of Action, studies and fight against the intrusive exotic species, the implementation of measures of management). Nevertheless, since 2013, the CBNC was equipped with a small unity of preservation ex situ, which allows him in particular to work, with social and occupational island ones, in the development of a sector of seeds and certified local plants.
